Hey there!
I'm Rachel Hawkinson, the founder and owner of T. Hawk Studio.
My desire to create springs from a single ingrained memory from my childhood. Having fun while watching my dad weld in the driveway.
When my dad welded at home, I got to hand him tools, help with the tape measure and mark things, but my favorite job was to start the welder. When it was ready, I got to hit the “start” button and I would watch this huge machine rumble into life. That’s when I would see my dad take regular materials like sheet and tubing and magically turn them into functional items like bird perches, window well covers and bicycle racks. (Little did I know, magic had nothing to do with it.) He took the time to allow me to be part of the process, welding helmet, small leather gloves and all. It was my own brand of dress-up and taught me that the ordinary can become extraordinary with a little hard work, creativity and grit.
While the objects I make are functional, metalwork allows me to break rules and explore my world through visual story telling. I use slow, traditional bench techniques that allow me to pause and marvel in my present surroundings while erasing some of the noise that comes with our ever-changing fast paced world. My work focuses on the intricacies of how human thought, plants, animals and the ground we walk on all work together to create each individual's life experience.
T. Hawk Studio is founded on the principles of unique, custom design and quality craftsmanship. There is heavy inspiration found from Mother Nature by stone selection (and procurement source), pattern, and incorporating natural elements such as leather, eco-friendly materials and packaging.
If you love to stand out, I'm here to add a little sparkle to your world with a western, art-deco style.
